The Favor Maker began quite by accident. I was teaching high school biology and anatomy during the day and being a mom at night. I always enjoyed throwing a good party and helping friends unleash their creativity with their own. After creating some unique invitations and favors for my sister's baby shower, I was repeatedly asked where I got them. When I told people they were my own creations, I kept hearing "You need to start a business!" And thus, The Favor Maker was born.
I ran The Favor Maker part-time for the first three years, while continuing to teach. Each summer, I made it my goal to grow my business enough that I could leave teaching for good. I loved my students and I loved the classroom, but administration and red tape was turning me off to it. Finally, my business was ready to go off on its own.
In May of 2006, I left the classroom for good and stepped into full-time business ownership. I continued to do most things myself for quite some time but then found it difficult to keep up. I soon found some wonderful girls to help assist me with everything from proofs and cutting work, to packaging and shipping. I also found some amazing artists to do freelance work for me when I needed something truly special.
In March of 2007, The Favor Maker was finally incorporated. I still do nearly 100% of the administrative work, customer service both by phone and e-mail, most custom design work, and developing new products & themes. I also manage our website (and now our blog) completely on my own. I do owe a lot, however, to Marlo, Brittany, and Lily, who without them, my company wouldn't exist.
Thank you to my husband for believing in me and for giving me the thumbs up to make this happen. And thank you to my beautiful daughter, for your patience on all of the evenings I've spent working, trying to take care of a rush order for a good customer. Thank you also to all of the customers who have been with me from the beginning and have helped me and supported me along the way. I have some wonderful things in store for the future- all I need is some extra time!
